This blog is an attempt to document the life and works of Dr. C. S. Lakshmi (who you may recognize better by her pen name, Ambai). Dr. C. S. Lakshmi is a historian, cultural anthropologist, and independent researcher in women’s studies, as well as a distinguished feminist creative writer in the Tamil language. Here, you can find information about Ambai’s life, including her major influences and achievements, as well as a brief background about the sociocultural milieu and the environment in which her writing is situated. You can also find information about her literature, including a gist of her most noted works, the themes and styles prevalant in her writing, and even links to a few scholarly critiques of her work. We even have links to some videos and interviews, where you can hear from Ambai herself!
So who are we, exactly? We are Nidhi Prabhakaran and Aditi Pasumarthy, students from FLAME University. We have made this blog as a part of our course titled “New Literatures in English”, under the guidance of Prof. Kunal Ray.
